The first thing you need to do before going out there posting random designs is to find your identity as an artist, what is your style and the type of images you can create that captures the best of your abilities. Then you might want to define the identity you want to create as a brand, even if you are just looking to post a couple of design without being too serious those designs will always look better if they are on the same page (concept wise) your work will look more professional and therefore a potential customer could feel more incline to buy.
Remember the whole first impression thing? Well it’s true.
Imagine you go to the supermarket and find dairy over the meat department, well it’s the same if you have cute teddy bears designs for toddlers next to explicit adult jokes related images. The same apply for drawing styles and even some colors layouts. Don’t blame me; it’s just the way it is.
You want to do it all? No problem:
I still recommend for any starter to find his Mojo and stick with it for a while, but all this does not mean you have to be limited to a certain niche, drawing technique or image style.
If you feel you have great designs the just not compatible, don’t put them together. Instead create different departments, like “For kids” or “Rockers”, you get the idea.
If you have many designs that are different I would suggest if possible creating different stores, you know, having all those girly pink designs in one place and those other dark Gothic in another may yield better result; Specially since you could customize the entire image of the store according to those designs and will look more in tune and professional.
How to find your identity:
Well I’m sure you know the answer already, only you will know. Just get a piece of paper and pencil and start drawing (if that’s your thing) or if you are more a picture person then get your camera and get out there. Just think of things that you are passionate about and makes you happy. Maybe you are that guy who can make a joke out of any situation or where that kid that drew the professor in high school. There is no formula here, just look inside and you will know when you see it.
